Background

The Quran teaches believers to ask Allah for spouses and children who are 'a coolness to our eyes' and to make them 'leaders of the righteous' (25:74). The Prophet ﷺ also recommended a short dua at the wedding night and after the wedding contract.

رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ، وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا

Our Lord, grant us from our spouses and our offspring a comfort to our eyes, and make us leaders of the righteous.

((بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ جَنِّبْنَا الشَّيْطَانَ، وَجَنِّبِ الشَّيْطَانَ مَا رَزَقْتَنَا)).

Dua for Marriage or New Acquisition

إِذَا تَزَوَّجَ أَحَدُكُمُ امْرَأَةً، أَوْ إِذَا اشْتَرَى خَادِماً فَلْيَقُلْ: ((اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهَا، وَخَيْرَ مَا جَبَلْتَهَا عَلَيْهِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا، وَشَرِّ مَا جَبَلْتَهَا عَلَيْهِ، وَإِذَا اشْتَرَى بَعِيراً فَلْيَأْخُذْ بِذِرْوَةِ سَنَامِهِ وَلْيَقُلْ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ)).

When one of you marries a woman, or buys a servant, he should say: 'O Allah, I ask You for the good of her and the good of what You have decreed for her. And I seek refuge in You from the evil of her and the evil of what You have decreed for her.' When buying a camel, he should hold its hump and say the same.

((بَارَكَ اللَّهُ لَكَ، وَبَارَكَ عَلَيْكَ، وَجَمَعَ بَيْنَكُمَا فِي خَيْرٍ)).
