Rising from Ruku' — Sami Allahu Liman Hamidah

Transliteration

Sami Allahu liman hamidah.

Translation

Allah hears the one who praises Him. This is said as one rises from bowing.

Context

This is the phrase the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would say as he rose from Ruku' (bowing) during prayer. He would say 'Sami Allahu liman hamidah' and then stand upright.

Benefit

This phrase affirms Allah's perfect knowledge and responsiveness to those who offer sincere praise, reminding the worshipper that their devotion is heard.

O Allah, I seek refuge in Your might, which never wanes, that You lead me astray. You are the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is within them. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen which You possess, that You make the Quran the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the reliever of my worries.

اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي فِيهِمْ، وَسَدِّدْنِي، وَاذْكُرْ هُدَاكَ، وَسَدَادَكَ، وَعَظِّمْ نِعْمَتَكَ عَلَيَّ، إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَمْلِكُ فَضْلَكَ أَحَدٌ غَيْرُكَ.

O Allah, guide me within them (my prayers) and make me firm and direct me. Remind me of Your guidance and Your directedness, and magnify Your blessings upon me. Indeed, I ask You of Your bounty, for none can possess Your bounty except You.
