Opening Invocation — Allahumma Rabb Jibra-eela

((اللَّهُمَّرَبَّجِبْرَائِيلَ،وَمِيْكَائِيلَ،وَإِسْرَافِيلَ،فَاطِرَالسَّمَوَاتِوَالأَرْضِ،عَالِمَالغَيْبِوَالشَّهَادَةِأَنْتَتَحْكُمُبَيْنَعِبَادِكَفِيمَاكَانُوافِيهِيَخْتَلِفُونَ.اهْدِنِيلِمَااخْتُلِفَفِيهِمِنَالْحَقِّبِإِذْنِكَإِنَّكَتَهْدِيمَنْتَشَاءُإِلَىصِرَاطٍمُسْتَقيمٍ)).

Transliteration

Allahumma Rabb Jibra-eela, wa Meeka-eela, wa Israfeela, Fatir as-samawati wal-ard, 'Alim al-ghaybi wash-shahadati, Anta tahkumu bayna 'ibadika fima kanoo feehi yakhtalifoon. Ihdini limakhtulifa feehi minal-haqqi bi-idhnika, innaka tahdi man tasha'u ila siratin mustaqeem.

Translation

O Allah, Lord of Gabriel, Michael, and Israfil; Creator of the heavens and the earth; Knower of the unseen and the seen; You judge between Your servants regarding that over which they dispute. Guide me to the truth, by Your permission, in that concerning which they differed. Indeed, You guide whomever You will to a straight path.

Context

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would recite this supplication to guide him to the truth when facing disputes among people regarding religious matters. It is a profound plea for divine guidance when confronted with differing opinions.

Benefit

This dua seeks Allah's direct intervention to clarify truth amidst confusion, ensuring one follows the straight path even when others diverge.

At the beginning of the prayer, after the opening takbir and before reciting Surat al-Fatihah.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِعِزَّتِكَ الَّتِي لاَ تَرْتَدُّ، أَنْ تُضِلَّنِي، أَنْتَ الْأَرْضُ وَالسَّمَوَاتُ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ، أَسْأَلُكَ بِكُلِّ اسْمٍ هُوَ لَكَ سَمَّيْتَ بِهِ نَفْسَكَ، أَوْ أَنْزَلْتَهُ فِي كِتَابِكَ، أَوْ عَلَّمْتَهُ أَحَدًا مِنْ خَلْقِكَ، أَوْ اسْتَأْثَرْتَ بِهِ فِي عِلْمِ الْغَيْبِ عِنْدَكَ، أَنْ تَجْعَلَ الْقُرْآنَ رَبِيعَ قَلْبِي، وَنُورَ صَدْرِي، وَجِلَاءَ حُزْنِي، وَذَهَابَ هَمِّي.

O Allah, I seek refuge in Your might, which never wanes, that You lead me astray. You are the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is within them. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen which You possess, that You make the Quran the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the reliever of my worries.

Opening Invocation for Guidance in Salah

اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي فِيهِمْ، وَسَدِّدْنِي، وَاذْكُرْ هُدَاكَ، وَسَدَادَكَ، وَعَظِّمْ نِعْمَتَكَ عَلَيَّ، إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَمْلِكُ فَضْلَكَ أَحَدٌ غَيْرُكَ.

O Allah, guide me within them (my prayers) and make me firm and direct me. Remind me of Your guidance and Your directedness, and magnify Your blessings upon me. Indeed, I ask You of Your bounty, for none can possess Your bounty except You.
