Translation
O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the earth, and Lord of the Great Throne. Our Lord and Lord of all things. The One who splits the grain and the date-seed. The Revealer of the Torah, the Gospel, and the Criterion. I seek refuge in You from the evil of all things You hold by their forelock. O Allah, You are The First, so nothing is before You; You are The Last, so nothing is after You; You are The Manifest, so nothing is above You; and You are The Hidden, so nothing is closer than You. Settle our debts for us and enrich us from poverty.
Context
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this comprehensive supplication to his companion, Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), to recite before sleeping. It encompasses acknowledging Allah's Lordship over all creation and seeking refuge in His ultimate power and knowledge.
Benefit
This dua affirms Allah's absolute dominion and seeks His protection from all harm, while also asking for relief from debt and poverty, drawing on His infinite power and mercy.
When to Recite
Before going to sleep, once.
