Dua before Sleep — O Allah, let me live among Your righteous servants

اللَّهُمَّأَحْيِنِيفِيزُمْرَةِعِبَادِكَالصَّالِحِينَ،وَأَمِتْنِيعَلَىمِلَّتِكَ،وَاسْتَجِبْلِي،فَإِنَّكَتَرْزُقُمَنْتَشَاءُبِغَيْرِحِسَابٍ

Transliteration

Allahumma ahyini fi zumrati 'ibadika as-salihin, wa ammitni 'ala millatik, wastajib li, fa innaka tarzuqu man tasha'u bi ghairi hisab.

Translation

O Allah, let me live among Your righteous servants, and cause me to die as a Muslim, and grant my supplication, for You provide for whomever You wish without account.

Context

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to a companion who asked him what to say before sleeping. It is a comprehensive request for a righteous life and death, seeking Allah's acceptance and provision.

Benefit

This dua seeks Allah's grace to live and die as a righteous Muslim, acknowledging His ultimate power to grant sustenance to whomever He wills, fostering humility and reliance.

اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ، لَا تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلَا نَوْمٌ، لَّهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ…

Allah — there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth… (Recite all of verse 2:255.)

Before Sleeping — The Three Quls

قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ … قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ … قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ

Recite Surah al-Ikhlas, Surah al-Falaq, and Surah an-Nas three times each, then blow into your palms and wipe over your body, starting with the head and face and the front of the body.

بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا

In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live.

Dua for Protection When Going to Sleep

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْلَمْتُ نَفْسِي إِلَيْكَ، وَفَوَّضْتُ أَمْرِي إِلَيْكَ، وَوَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِي إِلَيْكَ، وَأَلْجَأْتُ ظَهْرِي إِلَيْكَ، رَغْبَةً وَرَهْبَةً إِلَيْكَ، لاَ مَلْجَأَ وَلاَ مَنْجَا مِنْكَ إِلاَّ إِلَيْكَ، آمَنْتُ بِكِتَابِكَ الَّذِي أَنْزَلْتَ، وَبِنَبِيِّكَ الَّذِي أَرْسَلْتَ.

O Allah, I have submitted myself to You, entrusted my affairs to You, turned my face towards You, and clung to You for support, hoping in You and fearing You. There is no refuge or safety from You except with You. I believe in the Book You revealed and the Prophet You sent.

Dua Before Sleep — O Allah, let me live in Your Paradise

اللَّهُمَّ أَحْيِنِي فِي جَنَّتِكَ، وَأَمِتْنِي عَلَى مِلَّتِكَ، وَأَعِذْنِي مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْقَبْرِ وَعَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ، وَظُلْمَةِ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ.

O Allah, let me live in Your Paradise, and let me die upon Your way, and protect me from the trial of the grave, the punishment of the grave, and the darkness of the Day of Resurrection.

Dua for Protection When Going to Sleep

بِاسْمِكَ رَبِّ وَضَعْتُ جَنْبِي، وَبِكَ أَرْفَعُهُ، إِنْ أَمْسَكْتَ نَفْسِي فَارْحَمْهَا، وَإِنْ أَرْسَلْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا بِمَا تَحْفَظُ بِهِ عِبَادَكَ الصَّالِحِينَ

In Your name, my Lord, I lie down and in Your name I rise. If You should take my soul, then have mercy upon it. And if You should return my soul, then protect it with what You protect Your righteous servants.
