Prophet's Dua for a Good Ending

Source: Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3541

اللَّهُمَّإِنِّيأَسْأَلُكَحُسْنَالْخَاتِمَةِ

Transliteration

Allahumma inni as'aluka husnal-khatimah

Translation

O Allah, I ask You for a good ending.

Context

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught his companions to ask Allah for a good end to their lives. This supplication is a direct plea for Allah's mercy to grant a state of faith and good deeds at the moment of death.

Benefit

Asking Allah for a good ending is a recognition of our dependence on Him for our final moments. It encourages a life lived with intention, seeking Allah's pleasure until the very end.

When to Recite

Can be recited at any time, especially after prayers or during personal supplication.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ فِعْلَ الْخَيْرَاتِ، وَتَرْكَ الْمُنْكَرَاتِ، وَحُبَّ الْمَسَاكِينِ، وَأَنْ تَغْفِرَ لِي وَتَرْحَمَنِي، وَإِذَا أَرَدْتَ فِتْنَةَ قَوْمٍ فَتَوَفَّنِي غَيْرَ مَفْتُونٍ، وَأَسْأَلُكَ حُبَّكَ، وَحُبَّ مَنْ يُحِبُّكَ، وَحُبَّ عَمَلٍ يُقَرِّبُ إِلَى حُبِّكَ

O Allah, I ask You to enable me to do good deeds, to abandon evil deeds, and to love the poor. I ask You to forgive me and have mercy on me. If You intend to try a people with tribulation, take me to Yourself without my being tried. I ask You for Your love, the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds which bring me closer to Your love.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ هُدَى التَّائِبِينَ، وَتَوْبَةَ أَهْلِ الْيَقِينِ، وَنِيَّةَ الْأَبْرَارِ، وَمَعْرِفَةَ الْأَخْيَارِ، وَمَحَبَّةَ الْأَبْرَارِ، وَالتَّوَكُّلَ عَلَيْكَ عَلَى الْأَخْيَارِ، وَالْقَنَاعَةَ بِالْيَسِيرِ، وَالرِّضَا بِالْقَدَرِ، وَالشُّكْرَ عِنْدَ الرَّخَاءِ، وَالذِّكْرَ عِنْدَ الْبَلَاءِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ نَعِيمًا لَا يَبْلَى، وَقُرَّةَ عَيْنٍ لَا تَنْقَطِعُ، وَرِضَاكَ عِنْدَ الْمَمَاتِ، وَمَغْفِرَتَكَ بَعْدَ الْمَمَاتِ، وَمَعَافَاةً فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ، اللَّهُمَّ بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيثُ، أَصْلِحْ لِي شَأْنِي كُلَّهُ، وَلَا تَكِلْنِي إِلَى نَفْسِي طَرْفَةَ عَيْنٍ.

O Allah, I ask You for the guidance of those who repent, the repentance of those with certainty, the intention of the righteous, the knowledge of the best, the love of the righteous, reliance on You like the best, contentment with what is little, acceptance of destiny, gratitude in times of ease, and remembrance in times of hardship. O Allah, I ask You for everlasting bliss, and coolness of the eye that never ceases, and Your pleasure at death, and Your forgiveness after death, and well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, by Your mercy I seek help; rectify for me all my affairs and do not entrust me to my soul even for the blink of an eye.
