Dua Upon Waking Up — Alhamdulillah Alladhi Ahyana

Transliteration

Alhamdulillahil-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilayhin-nushur.

Translation

All praise is due to Allah, who has given us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.

Context

The Prophet ﷺ taught his companions this profound supplication to recite upon waking. It serves as a beautiful acknowledgment of Allah's power over life and death, reminding us of our ultimate return to Him.

Benefit

عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا اسْتَجَدَّ ثَوْبًا سَمَّاهُ بِاسْمِهِ، عِمَامَةً، أَوْ قَمِيصًا، أَوْ سَرِيْلًا، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: «اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ كَسَوْتَنِيِهِ، أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ خَيْرِهِ وَخَيْرِ مَا صُنِعَ لَهُ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهِ وَشَرِّ مَا صُنِعَ لَهُ».

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, when he wore a new garment, would name it by its name, whether it was a turban, a shirt, or a cloak. Then he would say: 'O Allah, to You belongs all praise. You have clothed me with this. I ask You for its goodness and the goodness of what it was made for, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what it was made for.'

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلْفَلَقِ مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَ وَمِن شَرِّ ٱلنَّفَّٰثَٰتِ فِى ٱلْعُقَدِ وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak, From the evil of what He has created, And from the evil of darkness when it settles, And from the evil of the blowers in knots, And from the evil of an envier when he envies."
