Dua for Wearing New Clothes

عَنْأَبِيسَعِيدٍالْخُدْرِيِّرَضِيَاللهُعَنْهُقَالَ:كَانَرَسُولُاللهِصَلَّىاللهُعَلَيْهِوَسَلَّمَإِذَااسْتَجَدَّثَوْبًاسَمَّاهُبِاسْمِهِ،عِمَامَةً،أَوْقَمِيصًا،أَوْسَرِيْلًا،ثُمَّيَقُولُ:«اللَّهُمَّلَكَالْحَمْدُأَنْتَكَسَوْتَنِيِهِ،أَسْأَلُكَمِنْخَيْرِهِوَخَيْرِمَاصُنِعَلَهُ،وَأَعُوذُبِكَمِنْشَرِّهِوَشَرِّمَاصُنِعَلَهُ».

Transliteration
ʿAn Abī Saʿīd al-Khudriyy radiyallahu ʿanhu qāla: Kāna rasūlullāhi ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam idhā istajadda thawban sammāhu bi-ismihi, ʿimāmatan, aw qamīṣan, aw sarīlan, thumma yaqūlu: «Allāhumma laka al-ḥamdu anta kasawtanihi, asʾaluka min khayrihi wa-khayri mā ṣuniʿa lah, wa-aʿūdhu bika min sharrihi wa-sharri mā ṣuniʿa lah».
Translation
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, when he wore a new garment, would name it by its name, whether it was a turban, a shirt, or a cloak. Then he would say: 'O Allah, to You belongs all praise. You have clothed me with this. I ask You for its goodness and the goodness of what it was made for, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what it was made for.'
Context
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would mention the specific new garment he was wearing and praise Allah for it. He would then ask Allah for the good of the garment and its purpose, while seeking refuge from any potential harm it might cause or be made for.
Benefit
This dua expresses gratitude to Allah for the blessing of clothing and seeks protection from any potential negativity associated with the new garment, ensuring its use is blessed.
