Transliteration

Idha sami'tum siyaha ad-diyikati fas'alu Allaha min fadlihi; fa innaha ra'at malakan. Wa idha sami'tum nahaqa al-himari fata'awwadhu billahi min ash-shaytan; fa innahu ra'a shaytanan.

Translation

When you hear the rooster's crow, ask Allah for His bounty, for it has seen an angel. When you hear the donkey's bray, seek refuge in Allah from Satan, for it has seen a devil.

Context

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that the sounds of certain animals can signal divine or infernal presence. He advised us to respond to the rooster's crow by asking Allah for His grace, as its crowing indicates the presence of an angel. Conversely, hearing a donkey's bray is a sign to seek Allah's protection from Satan, as the donkey has seen a devil.

Benefit

This teaching connects us to the unseen world, guiding us to seek blessings during moments of angelic presence and protection during times of potential demonic influence, fostering greater awareness of Allah's presence.

When to Recite

Upon hearing a rooster crow or a donkey bray.
