Prophet Ibrahim's Dua for a Blessed City

رَّبِّاجْعَلْهَٰذَاالْبَلَدَآمِنًاوَاجْنُبْنِيوَبَنِيَّأَننَّعْبُدَالْأَصْنَامَ

Transliteration
Rabbij'al hādhihi al-balada āminan waj-nubnī wa baniyya an na'budal-aṣnām.
Translation
My Lord, make this city [Mecca] a sanctuary and keep me and my descendants away from worshipping idols.
Context
This supplication was made by Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) when he settled some of his family in the barren valley of Mecca. He prayed to Allah for the city's safety and for his descendants to be protected from idol worship, a common practice of the time.
Benefit
This dua teaches the importance of seeking Allah's protection for one's home, community, and lineage from disbelief and harmful practices, while also asking for a secure and blessed environment.
When to Recite
Recited by Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) at a specific time and place, but its lesson is timeless for seeking peace and purity for one's home and family.
