Translation
Our Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or err. Our Lord, do not place upon us a burden like that which You placed upon those before us. Our Lord, do not place on us a burden greater than we can bear; and pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy upon us. You are our Protector, so help us against the disbelieving people.
Context
This profound supplication, found at the conclusion of Surah Al-Baqarah (2:286), encapsulates the believers' humble reliance upon Allah's infinite mercy. It is a direct plea for forgiveness for unintentional errors and a request for relief from burdens that exceed human capacity, affirming the principle that Allah does not task a soul beyond its scope.
Benefit
Reciting this dua cultivates a deep sense of humility and dependence on Allah, fostering spiritual peace by seeking divine pardon for human fallibility and protection from overwhelming trials. It also invokes Allah's aid against adversity, strengthening one's faith and trust in His guardianship.
When to Recite
It is particularly recommended to recite the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah, including this dua, at night.
