Visiting the Sick — La ba'sa tahoorun in sha Allah

((لاَبأْسَطَهُورٌإِنْشَاءَاللَّهُ)).

Transliteration

La ba'sa tahoorun in sha Allah.

Translation

Do not worry, this illness will be a purification, if Allah wills.

Context

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would say this when visiting a sick person. He would reassure them that their illness was not a cause for worry, but rather a means of purification from sins, by Allah's will.

Benefit

This comforting phrase reminds the sick that their suffering can be a spiritual cleansing, fostering patience and reliance on Allah during times of illness.

I acknowledge before You Your favor upon me, and I acknowledge my sin — so forgive me, for none forgives sins but You.
