Dua for When Tragedy Strikes — Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Raji'un

إِنَّالِلَّٰهِوَإِنَّاإِلَيْهِرَاجِعُونَ،اللَّهُمَّاكْتُبْلِيعِنْدَكَالْعُجْرَوَأَبْدِلْنِيمِنْفَوْقِيخَيْرًا."اللَّهُمَّاكْتُبْلِيعِنْدَكَالْعُجْرَوَأَبْدِلْنِيمِنْفَوْقِيخَيْرًا"

Transliteration
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. Allahumma-ktub li 'indaka al-'ujra wa abdilni min fawqi khayra. Allahumma-ktub li 'indaka al-'ujra wa abdilni min fawqi khayra.
Translation
Verily we belong to Allah, and verily to Him we shall return. O Allah, record for me the reward for this calamity and compensate me with something better.
Context
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this supplication to Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) when she suffered the loss of her husband, Abu Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him). He instructed her to recite this dua when a calamity befalls a Muslim.
Benefit
Reciting this dua acknowledges Allah's sovereignty and seeks His reward and better compensation during times of hardship, fostering patience and reliance on Him.

Upon experiencing any loss, misfortune, or tragedy.
