Dua for Sighting the New Moon

((اللَّهُأَكْبَرُ،اللَّهُمَّأَهِلَّهُعَلَيْنَابِالْأَمْنِوَالْإِيمَانِ،وَالسَّلاَمَةِوَالْإِسْلاَمِ،وَالتَّوْفِيقِلِمَاتُحِبُّرَبَّنَاوَتَرْضَى،رَبُّنَاوَرَبُّكَاللَّهُ)).

Transliteration

Allahu akbar. Allahumma ahillahu 'alayna bil-amni wal-imani, was-salamati wal-islami, wat-tawfiqi lima tuhibbu Rabbana wa tarda, Rabbuna wa Rabbukal-lah.

Translation

Allah is the greatest. O Allah, bring it upon us with security, faith, safety, and Islam. Enable us to do that which You love and which pleases You. Our Lord and your Lord is Allah.

Context

When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ saw the new moon, he would say 'Allahu akbar.' He would then supplicate, 'O Allah, let it bring blessings upon us.' This dua is specifically for the sighting of the new moon, marking the beginning of a new lunar month.

Benefit

This supplication asks Allah for a blessed new month, filled with spiritual well-being, steadfastness in faith, and the ability to perform deeds that are pleasing to Him.

When to Recite

Upon sighting the new moon at the beginning of any lunar month.
