Traveler's Dua for Those Left Behind — Astawdi'ukumullaha

((أَسْتَوْدِعُكُمُاللَّهَالَّذِيلاَتَضِيعُوَدَائِعُهُ)).

Transliteration

Astawdi'ukumullaha alladhi la tadee'u wadaa'i'uh.

Translation

I entrust you to Allah, the One whose trusts are never lost.

Context

When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would bid farewell to his companions before a journey, he would teach them this supplication to say to their families and loved ones left behind.

Benefit

This dua invokes Allah's protection over those left behind, assuring their safety under His watchful care, as He never fails to safeguard what is entrusted to Him.

When to Recite

When departing on a journey, said to those being left behind.

O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no god but You. You created me and I am Your servant. I keep Your covenant and my pledge to You as best I can. I take refuge in You from the evil I have done. I acknowledge before You Your favor upon me, and I acknowledge my sin — so forgive me, for none forgives sins but You.

Glory is to Him who has subjected this to us, and we ourselves were not capable. Indeed, to our Lord we will return.
