Invocation After Burying the Dead

((اللَّهُمَّاغْفِرْلَهُ،اللَّهُمَّثَبِّتْهُ)).

Transliteration

Allahumma ighfir lahu, Allahumma thabbit-hu.

Translation

O Allah, forgive him. O Allah, make him firm (in the grave).

Context

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this supplication to be recited after the burial of a Muslim. It is a prayer for Allah's mercy and steadfastness for the deceased as they face the questioning in the grave.

Benefit

This dua seeks Allah's forgiveness and stability for the deceased, crucial for their transition into the afterlife and their response to the angels' questions.

When to Recite

Immediately after burying a deceased Muslim.

O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no god but You. You created me and I am Your servant. I keep Your covenant and my pledge to You as best I can. I take refuge in You from the evil I have done. I acknowledge before You Your favor upon me, and I acknowledge my sin — so forgive me, for none forgives sins but You.
