Dua for Withholding Rain — Allahumma Hawalayna wa La Alayna

((اللَّهُمَّحَوَالَيْنَاوَلاَعَلَيْنَا،اللَّهُمَّعَلَىالآكَامِوَالظِّرَابِ،وَبُطُونِالْأَوْدِيَةِ،وَمَنَابِتِالشَّجَرِ)).

Transliteration
Allahumma hawalayna wa la 'alayna, Allahumma 'ala al-akāmi wa al-ẓirābi, wa buṭūn al-awdiyati, wa manābiti al-shajari.
Translation
O Allah, let the rain fall around us and not upon us. O Allah, let it fall on the pastures, hills, valleys, and the places where trees grow.
Context
This was the supplication the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ made when the companions sought his help during a drought. He prayed for the rain to benefit the land without causing harm through excessive downpour.
Benefit
This dua seeks Allah's mercy to bring beneficial rain that nourishes the earth, preventing the destructive consequences of floods and storms.
When to Recite
Recited when rain is needed but excessive downpour is feared, or during a drought.
