أَعُوذُبِكَلِمَاتِاللهِالتَّامَّاتِمِنْشَرِّمَاخَلَقَ

Transliteration

A'udhu bikalimatillahi at-tammati min sharri ma khalaq.

Translation

I seek refuge in Allah's Perfect Words from the evil of whatever He has created.

Context

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this supplication to be recited in the morning and evening. It is a way to seek Allah's protection through His complete and flawless words.

Benefit

Reciting this dua provides comprehensive protection from all forms of evil by invoking the power and perfection of Allah's divine words.

When to Recite

In the morning, after Fajr prayer, once.

أَصْبَحْنَا وَأَصْبَحَ الْمُلْكُ لِلَّهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

We have reached the morning and at this very time the whole kingdom belongs to Allah. Praise is for Allah. None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without partner; to Him belongs the kingdom and all praise, and He is over all things omnipotent.

Dua for Sleep — Seeking Refuge in Allah's Complete Words

عن عبد الله بن خبيب رضي الله عنه قال: قال لي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: "اقرأْ قل هو الله أحدٌ، والمعوذتينِ، حين تمسي وحين تصبحُ، ثلاثَ مراتٍ، تكفيكَ من كلِّ شيءٍ". رواه أبو داود والترمذي وقال: حديث حسن غريب. وأحمد والنسائي. وصححه الألباني. (وهذه الآيات هي سورة الإخلاص وسورتي الفلق والناس)

Recite the chapter 'Say He is Allah, the One' (Al-Ikhlas), and the two seeking refuge chapters (Al-Falaq and An-Nas) when you enter the evening and when you enter the morning. Recite them three times each, and they will suffice you against all harm.

O Allah, by Your Name I die and live.
